Bio/Studies
Mateusz Ryczek (*1986), Composer, graduated in 2008 with honours in composition under the tuition of Grazyna Pstrokonska-Nawratil at the Music Academy in Wroclaw. Then he continued to study at the same university under the direction of Grazyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Cezary Duchnowski (computer composition) and Zbigniew Karnecki (music theater and film) and he receved final Master’s Degree with honors in 2011.
He has won many competitions for composers (among other things: Crescendo in Tarnow – first prize, 2004; double bass’ composers’ competition in Word Bass Festival – first prize, 2008; Fides et Ratio – third prize, 2009), and as a result he was rewarded with a grant of the culture minister and the Marshal of Dolnoslaskie county.
Career
Compositions of Mateusz Ryczek have frequently been performed including at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn (concerts Youth Circle PCU), Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Dialogs in Mińsk (Belarus) and Hallo Wrocław 2016! (Germany – Poland). He has participated in such projects as Missa Solemnis, Factory sounds and international project ”Music Masters on Air”. Since 2006 Ryczek has been an active member Cycle of Young Polish Composers’ Union.

“Sub-deep of the Night”
The composition, which I wrote, is associated with the landscape of the city. The city at night appears to be calm and silent but this is only an illusion. At night the city resounds – inaudible to us – the great symphony of sounds. Every skyscraper, large building, bridge etc. resounds, only they are too low for us and we are not able to hear them.
